Summer jobs

Sharwan practising climbing at Boulderbox

In TARA, we encourage the teenagers and young adults to undertake short work placements and jobs during the summer. The aim is to give them exposure to the working world, enable them to explore different professional sectors, to develop their skills and to give them exposure to various work cultures.

Here is a selection of a few of these small adventures!

Sharwan (TARA Big Birds), while he was clearing his exams in June, simultaneously started a placement in a climbing sport complex in Delhi. Thanks to his efforts, he learnt how to climb and has developed a teaching method that will enable him to pass on this knowledge and become a trainer. At the same time, he is also helping the complex to develop its social networks, for which he is responsible for creating promotional and informative content about the structure. His aim is to take on this role for the rest of the year as he keeps studying in college and needs to gradually work on his financial independance.

Nandini inside the kitchen of the French Ambassy in Delhi

Nandini, a resident of TARA Girls (soon to become a TARA Big Bird), has started an internship at the French Embassy in Delhi. She joined the embassy's catering department where she had the opportunity to immerse herself in the gastronomy of another culture, discovering how to cook emblematic French dishes. Initially scheduled to last two weeks, the embassy wanted to extend the experience by a week and also offered her a stipend.

Soni during an event of Ginny's planet

Soni (TARA Girls soon to become a TARA Big Bird), discovered the world of education. She was responsible for looking after the young children of Indian Parliament workers during the holidays. Her duties included teaching them what they need to know during the holidays, planning activities and looking after them by telling them stories. She also organised an event to celebrate the birthday of the President of India.

All of this enables young residents at TARA to get their foot in the door of the professional world, discovering passions and professions that appeal to them. They acquire the rigour and unique skills that will be invaluable if they wish to continue their studies or pursue a specific career. TARA supports all its young people on a daily basis to offer them all the opportunities and possibilities they need to fulfil their potential.
